Judith Kemp started this petition to James Hanson, Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (VP Clinical Operations, Island Health) and

On the morning of Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Trevor Wicks, a Qualicum Beach, B.C. man in his mid-70s was making omelettes for himself and his wife Eileen when suddenly they heard loud voices and saw six people, four uniformed RCMP officers followed by two people in plainclothes, “more or less forcing their way into our peaceful home.”

Without any explanation, RCMP handcuffed Trevor, put him into a squad car and took him to a hospital in Comox, B.C. Two doctors, one a psychiatrist, assessed him. Records state that Trevor Wicks received a clean bill of mental health. He was then told he was free to leave. Despite repeated requests, at no time during these horrific events did Trevor Wicks receive any explanation or documents from the RCMP or the hospital about why this happened, and he still hasn't been given any documents to say who made the decision to apprehend and detain Eileen or why.

His wife Eileen, who has moderate dementia, was taken to another hospital in Nanaimo, B.C. an hour away on Vancouver Island. Trevor was not permitted to see his wife for four days, even though he has an enduring Power of Attorney and a Representation Agreement that gives him authority to make health care and personal care decisions on behalf of Eileen.

On January 16, the hospital doctor said that there was no reason why Eileen was being kept in hospital, and that Eileen could go home the next day. Three weeks and many excuses later, Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is still detaining Eileen, and Trevor is no longer permitted visits with her, only phone calls.

The Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is refusing to acknowledge Trevor’s legal right to obtain his wife Eileen’s records. These records would reveal who made the decision to launch this unbelievable assault on the couple, and why.

Trevor and Eileen are both invaluable members of Qualicum Beach’s community, participating in many activities ranging from regular beach clean-ups to larger environmental issues and donating to community causes. Eileen is trying to remain calm and strong, but her condition is deteriorating being locked up. We, her friends, want her returned back to her home and husband ASAP, as that is Eileen's and Trevor's wish.

Please sign our petition, and also email the following people to demand that the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital release Eileen into her husband Trevor Wicks’ care immediately. Please spread this petition and story to the media and to other people, to encourage them to do the same. Put "Free Eileen Wicks" in the email subject line and on social media.
