In 1993, Albert Alexander Dinkins was convicted for 1st degree criminal sexual conduct, robbery/common law robbery, strong arm robbery and 1st degree burglary and sentenced to life plus 40 years in prison. Being innocent of these crimes, Mr. Dinkins refused the plea deal of 20 years. Little did he know that he had just sealed his fate with the court system. He was one of many young, black uneducated who has suffered from the unjust system.

The presiding/ruling judge & the victim was members of the same church & should have recused himself. A juror was dismissed because he & the victim attended the same church. The same should have happened with the judge. Crime scene evidence was discarded. The victim could not positively identify the attacker. Mr. Dinkins' inadequate legal defense failed him greatly. Prosecutorial misconduct was also a factor in the wrongful conviction. Mr. Dinkins was denied any experts during trial or even in appeal. The crime was minimally investigated and evidence magically disappeared &/or disposed of. The only person that was collected data about was the target, Mr. Dinkins. Overzealous prosecutor was more concerned with his conviction rate instead of the truth. Police confidential informant lied, falsely and knowingly named Mr. Dinkins as the attacker. Mr. Dinkins never had the opportunity to face his accuser, the police informant.

In 1993, the system railroaded Mr. Dinkins. Leaving him in prison is not only immoral, it is also unethical and antithetical to the job prosecutors have a sworn duty to execute. Letting this ruling stand ultimately erodes our ability to create a fair and just system that people can trust.

By signing this petition, you support Dinkins and his request to come home. Dinkins has stated several times that he doesn't want to beat the system. The system has beaten him. He has been away from his family for 27 long years. His wife passed away in 2019. He now has grandchildren he's never met. Dinkins just wants to not die in prison. He is tired. He wants the court to know that he wants to be apart of society and be a productive citizen. He is a skilled roofer by trade and is eager to work, provide his own health insurance and pay taxes. He has paid another man's debt to society and he's humbled and weary. He'd like to come home by the court granting him time served.
