Fraser City Council - Fund the Budget on June 8th!!!
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
The City of Fraser is facing a 1.9 million dollar shortfall. If the Fraser City Council does not vote to pass PA 33 to levy a 5 mil increase, one of two things will happen. The city will have to cut 1.9 million dollars or shut the city down. Either option does not allow the city to legally spend a dime after July 1st. When I first heard this, my reaction was 'huh?'. What does that mean to me? Here it is in a nutshell.
Consequence #1 - shut down the city. City employees will not be paid. No DPW. No Public Safety (police, fire, and EMS). No Parks and Rec. No employees at City Hall, etc.
Consequence #2 - try and cut 1.9 million dollars from the budget. Say goodbye to:
Fraser Parks and Recreation
- All Sports and Programs for Children and Adults
- Summer Field Trips
- Senior activities programs
- Fraser Buddies
Family Game Day
Christmas in Fraser
Easter Egg Hunt
City of Fraser parade, picnic, and fireworks (city pays for a portion of the fireworks)
Department of Public Safety
What I didn't know: Fraser Public Safety Officers serve as police, fire and EMS.
10 - 12 officers will be laid off. That is close to 1/3 of the force. The ramifications from this will cause a delay in response time, increase in crime, less police presence, and more.
These are just 2 sections of cuts that will be made. There will be more!!!!
