Help Our School Dress Code Change
Girls want to be able to dress comfortably. When we are told we can't wear shorts that show our thighs or tank tops that show our shoulders, we feel that we have to hide our bodies. People tell us that we are too distracting, that if we dare show some skin at school when it is 90 degrees outside that it is inappropriate. But not everyone goes through this problem. Guys can go to school wearing a tank top and shorts. Teachers, are you going to tell him that his shoulders are too distracting? Are you going to tell him to put on a jacket, or cover-up? No? That's what I thought. When we wear shorts, some people are tall and their hands go down past the shorts. They would get told to change, put on some longer shorts, or just don't wear shorts at all. Some of you might think, this doesn't apply to me. But I bet if you asked any girl at your school about this topic she would either say it is really unfair or something that is not right about it. I was asking my friends from cheerleading about this topic. My friend Sarah who is tall was saying that it is totally unfair because she can't help being tall. Another one of my friends, Chloe, said that she saw a guy walking around school with a tank top on and he didn't get dress coded, but she had shorts on and got dress coded. Remind you it is 90 degrees outside and they expect us to just sit in the heat burning up. We girls just want to be able to wear shorts and a tank top without feeling like we have to cover up because we are "too distracting". We would like the dress code to be reevaluated to better reflect respect for girls. Help us change our school dress code today by signing this petition.
