Don't place the Robert E. Lee plaque anywhere else

UPDATE: apparently Franklin city council is planning on removing the plaque due to right-of-way issues. I'm amending the petition to ask the council to not rededicate it anywhere else.
Franklin, Ohio has memorial plaque honoring confederate general Robert E. Lee that was dedicated in 1927. Not only is it a monument honoring a racist and traitor, Ohio bravely fought against the confederacy in the Civil War and it is crass to honor this man in this way. I'm not advocating erasing him from history, because it absolutely should be taught in schools and remembered, but I disagree with him being honored as a hero. There are several other confederate monuments in Ohio, but they are in cemeteries where confederate soldiers are buried, and that seems to me the only appropriate places for confederate monuments. Please sign and share this petition, so the city of Franklin can remove this monument. Thank you.
