Franklin And Marshall College Alter Their Employee Screening Process
I am urging the school to change its hiring screening process as a direct result of my situation dealing with sexual harassment by a former F&M professor. I feel this is the best action to ensure students' safety on this campus in light of the lack of federal laws protecting from this situation. The school legally did all they could for me- but now they can do more. They can follow what UC Davis does, in its hiring process.
1. The school should begin asking previous employers of applicants if the applicant has ever committed harassment or research misconduct
2. Job postings should include a statement indicating that F&M officials will request information about past policy violations. Applicants must sign a form authorizing those institutions to release the documents — even if they have signed a confidential settlement agreement with that institution.
