Keep the N. Broadview / Raven High School Bus

SD83 has indicated they expect to drop the North Broadview High School bus route this Sept in order to meet budget demands and because all students on the route live within 4.8km of SAS (District defined distance for walking students). Final decision on the route will be made in Aug 2015.
School systems are making difficult choices with limited budgets but this is a poor choice because it involves children's safety. A distance of 4.8 kms is a very long way for kids to walk, but in the case of Raven subdivision (~4km), there are no sidewalks along Lakeshore and it is quite narrow and windy in places. This route is simply not practical or safe for walking - particularly in the winter. While it is each parent's responsibility to get their child to school safety (busing is at the discretion of the board) working parents rely heavily on the bus to ensure safe transportation of students.
It should be noted that in the Vernon School District, the Board's walk distance policy does not expect students to walk up to 4.8 kms (its closer to 2km).
We would like to see the current busing option for North Broadview continue in 2015/16 and beyond.
