End the needless emissions testing required in Allegheny County

Studies have shown that cars produced today are far better than their predecessors at emissions control. This is mainly because of the stricter laws placed on auto manufacturers to reduce emissions in vehicles. The rare instance that a car does fail the emissions check, half of the time it’s just a faulty gas cap. The cost for an emissions test can range from $25 to $34.99. Eliminating this unnecessary cost even on the lower end will free up millions of dollars to be spent in the county on other goods and services. It may not seem like much to save $35 a year, but to some lower income families that may be the difference in purchasing a set of new tires, which actually would increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions in their vehicle. It’s time we end this long outdated requirement once and for all. Please sign to show your support and let our representatives hear our voice.
