I am a RN, who just underwent a 4 year struggle of being misdiagnosed, being prescribed medication for diagnosis I did not have. Being a RN, I was able to clinical figure this out.
It took me 4 years of a battle that almost took my life to finally get to a diagnosis of Adrenal Insufficiency. My pituitary gland does not message thyroid, adrenals, estrogen, etc.
I had lost hope in our current healthcare system. This feeling was a dark place to be, especially when you are severely sick. You feel alone & scared, that no one really cares that you are going to die. This is not solely the physicians fault, there are many different factors that plays into the overall issue at hand. Productivity standards (fit more visits per day to cover lowered payment reimbursements to cover overhead costs of running medical practice). Our current medical record system creates huge barriers for reducing fragmentation between different healthcare providers.
I am excited to announce, the only really positive outcome that came from my experience, is that I have signed a contract with a Publisher to write a book about my experience, as a RN working thru our current healthcare sytem and the perils I faced. I am greatly troubled for the estimated high number of non-medical individuals here in the U.S. who are right now misdiagnosed, taking a wrong medication; all while their true medical issue is not being addressed.
Please know my ultimate goal of book is to: empower others with knowledge, to give them hope, to encourage them to keep going, keep seeking other Doctors until you find that one who will act pro-actively on your behalf. To provide them credible resources to turn to,so they do not have to bear this alone.
