Around the world there are approximately 4.5 million dog bites in the United States every year, and many of the bites, (attacks) are blamed on the American Pit Bull Terrier when really many of the dogs are different breeds. According to studies, the most common dog breed to attack people are Labrador Retrievers with a 13.3% attack rate while the American Pit Bull Terrier's attack rate is 8.4% which is closely followed by the German Shepherd which has a rate of 7.8% in attacks. Due to these stories about the Pit Bull breed many people have labeled these dogs as 'land sharks', 'vicious' and many more horrible things, causing many innocent dogs to be put down, and never knowing the love of a family. This has to stop or it is possible that this breed will become extinct in the the next few years.
