Mike Huckabee said that we should not be surprised by senseless acts of violence like the Sandy Hook school shooting after "removing" God and prayer from schools.
"We ask why there's violence in our school but we've systematically removed God from our schools," Huckabee told Neil Cavuto on Fox News. "Should we be so surprised that schools have become such a place of carnage?"
We are outraged by Mr. Huckabee's insensitive and hurtful comments and believe Fox News has a responsibility to publicly condemn his words and remove him from the air. To imply that God allowed this tragedy to happen because we no longer have mandatory school prayer is not only hurtful to all of the victims' families, but it is also false.
Religion has never been banned from schools. Our diverse nation allows students of all (and no) religions to pray as they wish without teachers or government bureaucrats telling them when and how to do it.
While Mr. Huckabee has a right to free speech, hosting a television program is a privilege not a right. Using such a horrific tragedy as a springboard to promote state-mandated religion is inappropriate and irresponsible. As a news organization, Fox News should do the right thing and remove him from the air immediately.
