I was inspired to create this petition by my mother. She has been working at her job for nearly twenty years. She works six days a week, goes to work on time and almost never takes time off, sometimes even when she's sick. She has also been helping me to care for my child since 2007 when I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She is getting close to retirement age (She turns 66 this year.) and has several health problems, including diabetes and high blood pressure. I want her to be able to retire comfortably without having to worry about finances. In addition, I worry that Social Security will not be enough to enable my mother to afford to retire. I believe that my idea would help a lot of people who would otherwise have to continue to work, even after retirement age, to supplement their Social Security income. I also believe that it would give employees incentive to stay at their jobs longer. I hope to make my idea a priority with lawmakers so that average, hard working Americans can afford to live comfortably even after they retire.
