Fox Nation recently released Tucker Carlson’s film Hungary vs. Soros: The Fight for Civilization, which suggests the Jewish philanthropist George Soros is out to demolish democracy through subtle, manipulative tactics. The film is replete with tired, antisemitic tropes framing Soros as an all-powerful puppet master. While this specific attack is relatively recent, antisemitic lies that paint Jewish people as dangerous and untrustworthy go much further back. Such sentiments have fueled both vigilante violence and state-sanctioned genocide. Jake Hyman of the Anti-Defamation League called Carlson’s “so-called documentary… a dangerous antisemitic dog-whistle sure to be heard loud and clear by a large audience.”[1]

The public should question and scrutinize how philanthropists approach politics. But this film is not a measured critique.  Instead, it is misinformation fueling violence, at a moment in which hate crimes have reached an all-decade high.[2] To spread misinformation from a position of power is to be an accomplice to this violence.

Some may say Carlson’s film is only white noise amid a despicable supply of antisemitic clickbait. We say all antisemitism is reprehensible. But Carlson’s is even more dangerous for the size and reach of his Fox Nation platform.

We are calling on Fox Nation to stop planting seeds of hate for profit. Fox: It’s time to get on the right side of history. Remove Hungary vs Soros from streaming. Do not reproduce rhetoric that fuels antisemitic suspicion and violence.
