The Simpsons has been running since 1989 and has been the subject of much controversy during this time. The program is iconic for its larger than life depictions of different persons, cultures and societies. It is through the format of comedy that The Simpsons has come to educate many people about different cultures and societies that they are not familiar with from all over the world, these include Native American, Mexican, Spanish, English cultures.

Since 1990, the character of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon has helped to educate many about different aspects of Indian culture and society through the story lines involving his character. A well-loved and iconic figure we feel that the opinions of a few are very narrow minded in that they see the stereotypical nature of the character as being negative to the image of a given culture, however what many to see is the positive benefits that arise from this such as educating viewers about different cultures, societies and ways of life. We feel that the character of Apu should not be removed as he represents a significant culture within the show.

It's hard to say. Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?
