Whitehall Road field has been a children’s playing field since the 1930s. To the shock of local residents in 2019 it came under threat of development.
The field is used by local residents and from those further afield for informal sports and is a firm favourite of the local families as it is a safe green space overlooked by houses. The local children play on the field and it is a focal point for the community.
We feel that these small green spaces are more valuable now than ever before, giving space for people to exercise without having to travel long distances, giving children room for free play and giving a space for wildlife to exist in our urban centres and so we campaigned to prevent the development and to protect the field for the future as a Local Green Space.
Blackburn with Darwen Council agreed to defer any decision about the future of the field until the new Local Plan review which is underway.
So please if you care about our community green spaces please sign up to show your support for Whitehall Road Field to be designated as Local Green Space in the Blackburn with Darwen 2021 Local Plan and help to protect this much-loved field for future generations.
