I want to get rid of homework over the weekends. Most children spend 7 hours a day in school, working on new lessons, and then they come home to work on homework. Most high school teachers assign about 3.5 hours of homework every day. This adds on to the 7 hours already spent doing work in school. Classes can be very stressful and in order for a student's mind to work properly, the students need to be stress-free and take a break. The weekend should be a time for students to just relax without having to worry about getting a bad grade because they didn't do an assignment for a class over the weekend. Most parents also work during the week which means the weekend is the only time they can actually spend with their families. The weekend was created as a relaxing end to a stressful week, and if we have more homework to complete over the weekend, we're going to be twice as stressed come Monday when we have even more homework. Yes, some teachers use the weekend for kids to make up late work, or retake tests, and that's okay. We just don't need MORE homework over the weekend. Most kids are okay with doing homework throughout the week, all we're asking for as kids are to have two days from the whole week without having to worry about school.
