Eric Rajchel started this petition to Fort Lauderdale Residents

On November 18, 2015 this city of Fort Lauderdale gave 824 SE 2nd St historical designation due to it being designed by architect Francis Abreu. This ruling prevented Mark Nelson, the owner of the property from knocking it down to re-develop and/or selling the property.

I live on SE 2nd St and with all of the amazing things that are happening around us in downtown Fort Lauderdale, I can't fathom why this eye sore of a building is being saved. I am not sure what is happening with it as it recently went under a year plus of renovations that did little to improve its curb appeal and now it sits vacant as it does not appear to be operating as a "retirement community" it was before. In reality, a halfway house or psych ward was a more appropriate designation. It truly looked like something straight out of a horror movie.

While it may be old, this property offers nothing to the community and any visitors have no idea what it is or who Francis Abreu is.

I ask that you sign this petition to remove the historical designation from this property so the owner can do as they please and ultimately put something in its place in its place that will increase the appeal and property value of this great area. Thank you!
