Formula discount for parents of multiples

As a mother to multiples, something that is incredibly hard to do is breastfeed two babies and have enough breastmilk to feed them exclusively. This is hard with TWO babies, let alone 3 or 4. Recent changes that have stemmed as a result of companies signing the Marketing of Infant Formulas: Manufacturers and Importers (MAIF) Agreement, means that as of September 2019, parents of multiples are no longer entitled to discounted formula. This discount financially help parents of multiples every month by offering between 20-50% off formula prices. This also provides parents with the option to go directly to the manufacturer to order online, and saved a trip to the shops where a 2 tin formula rule applies. In some cases, parents of multiples will go through 2-3 tins of formula a week.

Breastfeeding multiples (or exclusively expressing breastmilk) is not only difficult, but mentally and emotionally hard. Stage 1 and Stage 2 formula will not longer be discounted for parents of multiples, only formula for children over the age of 12 months. While this is appreciated, after 12months of age when solids are introduced, the amount of formula children require is not as much as what they need as a baby, and therefore, not often purchased or required.

Currently, when ordering formula on the Nutricia website, you need to read and agree to the fact that 'breast is best', in line with the MAIF agreement. Parents of multiples are not denying this, we are well aware of the benefits of breastmilk. We are however, asking that these companies continue to offer the discounted formula to parents of multiples, and reconsider their stance. This discount assists families, and in particular, mums, of multiples, financially and mentally.
