Clare Stirzaker started this petition to Forestry England and

For many years the residents of Friday Street have consistently complained to Forestry England about the illegal use of a bridleway by motor vehicles, which runs from the end of Friday Street onto Forestry land at Rendlesham Forest. To date no action has been taken by Forestry England, despite the support and efforts of Suffolk County Council, Highways Agency and the British Horse Society. We relaunched a campaign in 2020 to stop the illegal use of the bridleway and to seek the erection of a bridleway barrier on the grounds that:

  • Such use of the bridleway is causing environmental damage to a precious SSSI area, causing irreversible damage to the land and disturbing wildlife such as nightingales and adders;
  • The volume of cars poses a real safety risk to residents and other visitors to the forest in particular horse riders, many of whom no longer ride on this bridleway because of concerns about the risk posed from motor vehicles. Friday Street is a very narrow road with no passing places and blind corners and not suitable as an access and parking point for this section of the forest by motorised vehicles; and
  • The volume of cars is causing disruption to the lives of the residents through heavier levels of traffic, noise, pollution and other issues of public nuisance in what should be a peaceful area.

There are many legal parking areas for Rendlesham forest and this parking area is not required to access this section of the forest. We welcome visitors to Friday Street, but do not want people travelling here by car and motor bike to illegally drive and park on the bridleway.

Please sign this petition if you support the erection of a bridleway at the end of Friday to stop illegal use by motor vehicles. This petition will then be presented to Forestry England to help further demonstrate that this is an issue the collective Friday Street community wish to see resolved.
