Halt plans to create a large commercial landfill on 5km of lush meadow
The site is currently a lush local meadow and beauty spot. It is home to a wide verity of plant, birds and animal life including wild flowers and bees. The area is used by hundreds of local residents for walking, riding and recreation. This fantastic area will be entirely fenced off to allow the dumping of 60000 cubic meters (1000 lorry loads) of waste from the Leigh to Manchester guided bus-way construction project.
The bus-way project already meets its requirements for replacement of trees at a ratio of 2:1 along the route. Therefore this is quite a cynical and underhanded attempt to open up a very large scale tip, by describing the end result as a community forest. Local people feel there has not been adequate consultation or detail provided for these plans.
