Stop the demolition of JD Norman site due to black spot/ carbon black
Demolition of the JD Norman building began last week releasing soot/ carbon blank over our estate. It covered our cars, houses, gardens and even entered some of our houses!
I previously worked in a factory which used carbon black which is a lightweight fine black powder. It is easily carried by the airstream and is associated with respiratory problems and lung disease.
We don't want to breathe this in let alone our children.
Why should we suffer for the gain of some company who wants to repurpose the building!
After speaking with the site manager twice now he insists they are doing the necessary steps bestowed upon them by the council and environmental health, but how can they be if we have a sheet of filth covering our entire estate.
Also the council have been contacted who don't seem to want to know or take any action to stop our suffering.
Both of these government bodies have visited the site and said that they are taking the appropriate measures and without actually saying it have made it seem that we have to put up with it whilst construction is ongoing.
I don't oppose Jones food company who plan to convert the existing factory into a vertical farm however the fact they are aware of this issue and have done nothing is unethical.
Let yourselves be heard and stand up for you neighbour. Sign this petition and show that we aren't going to lie down quietly and that we will be heard!
I have also contacted a solicitor who specialises in dust nuisance from construction and am awaiting feedback as to whether we have a case to take against them. They act for communities not individuals and would be fighting for us to be heard.
These are our homes, our families, our community!
Thank you for taking the time to read and sign, your opinion is valued and appreciated.
