Canadians Stranded in Turkey Need Your Help to Return Home

We, the signatories of this petition, demand the Canadian Federal government to assume responsibility for all its citizens, permanent residents, and visa holders by organizing immediate repatriation of approximately 170 Canadians, Permanent Residents, and Visa holders who are stranded in Turkey.

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to take hold, the health system in Turkey is overburdened with virus-affected patients, and Canadians are left in abeyance. This situation requires imminent action by our Federal government.

As of March, 27th, there is no direct commercial flight from Turkey to Canada. Other alternative flights are not safe because they offer connections from other countries with a high risk of coronavirus exposure with a long wait in between flights and extremely high prices.

It is urgent that the Federal government make this request a priority to act and provide Mercy Flights to bring Canadians home as soon as possible.

Therefore, we appeal to the Canadian government, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Foreign Affairs Minister François-Philippe Champagne for prompt and concerted action to release an evacuation order from Istanbul to Toronto.
