On 4/20/2016 Bear, a Lab mix was found hanging by his leash and bloody choke collar just barely alive and clinging to life, as the result of a heinous animal abuse/torture case in rural Sibley, IL. He was shot in the head, badly beaten, his mouth duct taped shut and left for dead. The dog also showed signs of previous neglect and abuse with mange, chronic skin ulcers, hypothyroidism and a badly infected eye. Bear’s injuries were so severe that he had to be transported to the University of Illinois veterinary clinic. He has multiple fractures in his jaw and will require extensive surgery to remove bone fragments, though the damage is so extensive that surgeons will not be able to repair the jaw. Veterinarians think that he will never be able to eat hard dog food again. A Ford County Animal Control report states when authorities first encountered Bear's owners, the family claimed he had been missing and it also states they didn't seem surprised or upset Bear was hung from a bridge and nearly dead. They also didn't ask how to get him back. Bear is being treated at the University of Illinois Vet Med Hospital, after a "Go Fund Me' account was established and has currently raised over $10,000 to help with his medical expenses. Bear's owner's have not been charged with this heinous crime and they're now attempting to get the dog back. Please help to ensure the owners do NOT get this dog back and the person(s) responsible for this heinous crime are criminally prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
