Why this petition matters

Started by Ana Aguilera

I am currently an undergrad at UW-Madison and I was assigned a project in which I had to persuade a group of people into a topic I felt passionate about. My topic being how can we dress more sustainably. Although this got me thinking about how many of us might just take in this information and keep on with our lives. Because I feel so passionate about this topic and actually want to implement this idea into something of my own. I decide to create this petition in hopes that more people feel the same and that after the results can be later taken up with the board.

With fast fashion on the rise, it has pressured buyers to keep up with the latest trends with a cheaper price. Resulting in more unsustainable clothing creating more waste that ends up in landfills. As well as exploiting overseas workers that manufacture many of the clothing items.

Having the skill of knowing how to sew allows you to make new clothes out of old clothes and even customize it to your own style. Colleges/Universities have such a huge impact on a big group of people it is a great start especially with young adults. We are aware of the environmental problem and there are many ideas on the table, it is now time to take action before it is too late.
