Instagram claims to stand against hate and harassment, yet their actions, or lack thereof, tell a different story.

A young artist has recently been the target of coordinated harassment. The abusers use emojis, coded language, and manipulation of the platform's tools to bypass detection. Despite multiple reports and requests for human review, Instagram has failed to take action. The hateful comments remain online. The victim is left unprotected.

This is not an isolated case. Many users, especially women, artists, activists, and young people, face online abuse daily without any real support from the platform.

Instagram’s moderation system is broken, whether automated or human, it clearly does not understand or address harassment in today's digital context. By allowing this to continue, Instagram becomes complicit.

We are calling for strict regulation of Instagram’s moderation practices at the European level. Social media platforms must be held accountable when they fail to protect their users. 

We need real action, not vague policies and empty promises.
