Christine Gaer started this petition to School board Kansas Assosiation Of School Boards

In the Geary 475 school district, we have a strict dress code. The dress code is mainly targeted against females. Males are able to wear tank tops and shorts and sweatpants. Boys have been able to wear their pants down to their knees and still won’t get dress coded. Girls for an example will wear a shirt the shows their shoulder and they imediatly get dress coded. The school districts reasoning is because our outfits are distracting to other students. Why should anyone have to change the way we express ourselves because of the way someone else thinks? Personally I have been affected by this issue, I wore a pair of black leggings and a baggy shirt I got dress coded because of my leggings, now my leggings weren’t showing off my underwear and they weren’t inappropriate they were plain black leggings. I was forced to wear gym shorts for the rest of the day until I got home. The changes I want made is for girls to have the same dress code rules as boys. They don’t have to be drastically changed but we should be able to wear leggings and we should be able to wear stuff that shows our shoulders.
