Football South Coast do not speak for me

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

The FFA have announced that the A League will soon be expanding with criteria to soon be released.  Many say that a team from the Illawarra region should be part of the expanded A-League and considering the region's position as a nursery for top Australian sporting talent, its clear why.

What is not clear, however, is who that team will be.  While it appears on social media that the consensus is for a standalone Wollongong team such as the Wollongong Wolves bid, Football South Coast have recently announced their support for 'Southern Expansion' who have plans to give the Illawarra 1/3 of a side.

Southern Expansion Chairman, Morris Iemma has said that the side would play one third of their games at Win Stadium, however, no formal agreement exists.  Despite this, Southern Expansion have signed agreements to play one third of their games at Kogarah and one third at Shark Park.  They have also hinted at ideas to build a new 'purpose built' stadium for football within the Sutherland Shire.  We have seen this before with the dilution of the Illawarra Steelers and regardless of whether you support the Wolves bid or not, we know that Wollongong is not southern Sydney.

The message has been loud and clear to Southern Expansion for some time, however, its time now to send the message to Eddy DeGabrielle that we, as players, coaches and supporters of football in the South Coast region reject his support for a one third team.  We, as members of Football South Coast reject his push to sell out the fans of the Illawarra and make this decision without any consultation or discussion with the members that he is supposed to represent.
