Combat food waste & food insecurity in Australia
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
3.6 million Australians have experienced food insecurity at least once in the last 12 months.
And yet, Australia is considered one of the most wasteful countries in the world with approximately $8 billion of perfectly good food thrown away every year.
Solving Australia’s hunger issue begins with addressing our out-of-control food waste problem.
That’s why we’re asking you to sign the petition below calling on the Australian Government to do more to combat food waste and food insecurity.
While we commend the Government for creating the country’s first ever national food waste strategy, we believe they must also develop a Food Insecurity Strategy to help fully address the crisis in Australia.
One of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve zero hunger by 2030. With 15% of Australians having experienced food insecurity at least once in the last 12 months, concerted action is required quickly if we are to meet this goal.
When you sign the petition below, you’ll be calling on the government to:
· Develop a Food Insecurity Strategy to help combat food waste
· Outline long-term solutions capable of addressing the key contributors to food insecurity in Australia
· Develop policy and funding solutions to help relief agencies like Foodbank get food to rural and regional areas across the country.
