Health and safety issues on food labelling.

The storage and cooking instructions along with allergy warnings on food packaging use a very small font that is illegible to many people. Frequently this essential information is squeezed on the sides of products while the advertising or marketing information occupies the much larger faces of the packaging. This is potentially hazardous to the health of consumers.

In general as people grow older their eyesight deteriorates, some unfortunately have always had eyesight issues. Spectacles frequently resolve issues and allow people to read more easily. In my case I have only required reading glasses since I attained the age of 50 years, but a lot of people have required spectacles for many years. However, while I can read books, magazines and use a computer, I cannot easily read the instructions for food packaging. The small font used for important information about storage, allergies and cooking instructions not only requires the use of reading spectacles but also a magnifying glass.

I estimate that the font size used on these crucial instructions is about 6point. I would recommend that a minimum font size of 10points would be preferable but this would need to be confirmed.
