LuLu Corbett started this petition to Food and Drug Administration and

(quoted tweet from @meyevee) “Pharma giant Gilead just announced they will charge nearly $2,500 for a COVID-19 treatment called Remdesivir. The thing is US taxpayers invested at least $70 mil developing remdesivir while the cost of making the drug is $10”

Covid19 should not be used as a way to make more money and profit, everyone, regardless of economic status, should have access to the healthcare needed to help end this pandemic.

According to the LA Times,

“The company has faced criticism for pricing remdesivir at $390 a vial for governments — or $2,340 per patient for a standard, five-day course — and $520 for U.S. insurance companies, or $3,120 per patient.

The company says the prices are fair when compared with the cost of a longer hospital stay. But critics contend that because Gilead received about $70 million in federal funds to develop the drug, the prices are unfairly high.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-07-01/gilead-patent-limits-access-to-covid-19-drug-remdesivir%3f_amp=true

In these unprecedented times it is important that we work together to end this virus instead of weaponizing it as an agent of profit.
