Fly a Pride Flag at Pride Month in Oakland NJ
Why this petition matters
Oakland, NJ is a diverse community that prides itself on inclusivity and acceptance. However, we have yet to see our town fly a Pride flag.
According to the Human Rights Campaign, New Jersey ranks as one of the top states in the nation for LGBTQ+ equality. It is time for our town to reflect this progress by publicly displaying support for our LGBTQ+ community members.
Flying a Pride flag would not only show solidarity with our LGBTQ+ neighbors but also attract tourism and promote economic growth. Many businesses, churches and other Oakland organizations have already taken steps towards inclusivity by displaying rainbow flags or participating in local pride events.
It's time for Oakland to join them and take action towards creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and accepted. Let's show that we are proud of who we are as a community by flying a Pride flag for Pride Month.
We urge the Borough of Oakand Town Council members Eric Kulmala, Steven Saliani, John McCann, Pat Pignatelli, Kevin Slasinski and Russell Talamini to take action towards flying a Pride flag in our town in solidary with Pride Month celebrations.
Thank you for your consideration.
