Ashley Gregory started this petition to Floyd County Board of Education

This petition is very important to me because I would really like to be able to check in on my daughters through video or what I call a Camera Portal.

Its an app, where a parent will be able to see the classroom at anytime. The app also has all the parents in a group message, we can private message or call each other along with the teachers and aides.

However, they have it set to where no one can screen record or screenshot anything for the privacy of the students. But the class room stays available all week long for us to go back and watch.

To have a system that keeps everything recorded. Then have it to where parents could log in on their own device and observe their child. A well ran monitoring system to protect everyone.

With past violence against schools and Covid a parent just cant go, walk in the school building and peek through the door and check on their child. Plus that would cause a disturbance with the other students as well.

If we can come together as mothers and fathers and make this change I believe it would benefit our students, teachers, and give us the peace of mind on how our kids are doing in school. We could see how they are treating others. How they are being treated. How the students are treating their teachers and other staff. We may check in on them and notice something that only parents notice. Like a medical emergency.

If a parent or child needed to get caught up on an assignment they could log in and study during a class session.

I believe having cameras in the classrooms help parents feel more included, we could observe the safety of the children, the safety of the staff, to make sure your child is participating and behaving correctly. They would be no questions of what happened if an incident occurred because it would be recorded. It would be such a relief to be able to check in and see your child. I know some days I just wonder if my daughters are having a good day or not.

Employees, who work in all kinds of other industries, including government, are routinely videotaped, recorded, internet monitored, etc.  Why should education be any different?

Kentucky's department of educations core values are equity, achievement, collaboration and integrity.

Equity is the quality of being fair and impartial.

✅I think it would be fair to everyone to be able to feel some kind of inclusion with this system.

Achievement is a thing done successfully, typically by effort, courage, or skill.

✅I believe it would be a great achievement to successfully install an efficient system. It takes a lot of effort, courage, and skill to try and make needed changes for out school.

Collaboration is the action of working with someone to produce or create something.

✅It would be a great collaboration to work with other parents and educators to create a system that works for everyone.

Integrity is equality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

✅I feel that anyone doing their job correctly and honestly will support a camera/app system. It would be displaying their strong moral behavior.

I know some may feel that it could possibly open your children up to abuse by child predators. Through the audio and video feeds, may be worried about members of the public learning your childs name and/or personal information. But our school system will make sure safety precautions are in place before any camera portal is introduced to out kiddos. Just like with the student lab tops. Usernames, passwords, passcodes, firmware or spyware for protection.

It all about bringing the kids, staff, and family together as one. Parents want to be more included. With this I honestly believe it will make a positive difference.
