Brittney Pyles started this petition to Florida Wildlife Commission

Millions flock to Florida’s nature coast each year to enjoy the naturally fed crystal clear springs of Weeki Wachee as well as the wildlife. Like myself, many natives have grown up boating and swimming along the river. The Florida wildlife commission is currently trying to set a plan in place to close off a large section of river ranging from the Weeki Wachee state park to Roger’s park. While boating will still be allowed, getting off of your vessel will not and the limitations include NO beaching, mooring and anchoring into the sand bars. While the Florida Springs protection act is a great way to start protecting and preserving the springs, it goes against one of the BIGGEST enjoyments of the river and that is that swimming is no longer allowed. There should AT LEAST be a swimming section along the river, OR a protected section from the bank outward so many feet OR at the VERY LEAST people should be allowed to exit their vessel to swim without anchoring and hanging out on the sandbars. With this plan in place, many can still enjoy the swimming while the river remains protected. **********HURRY!!********** LET’S MAKE A CHANGE ((TODAY)) BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! You can sign this petition as well as email the Florida Wildlife Comission yourself to help convince them. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
