Demand FSU Allow Remote Workers To Perform Childcare Responsibilities

On June 30, Florida State University communicated an update to their remote work policy.
"In March 2020, the University communicated a temporary exception to policy which allowed employees to care for children at home while on the Temporary Remote Work agreement,” read the email to faculty and staff according to an article posted by The Lily. “Effective, August 7, 2020, the University will return to normal policy and will no longer allow employees to care for children while working remotely.”
Not allowing our university staff and faculty to care for their children while work continues remotely is an unnecessary cruelty towards families already struggling to balance a new schedule of working at home while caring for young children who are now left without the common childcare options such as school, summer camp, and many daycare options.
This is a policy that disproportionately affects mothers and adds undue stress onto our staff and faculty by forcing them to find alternate childcare while they are working from their own homes.
