Paid Parental Leave for the State of Florida
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
The U.S. is the only industrialized nation in the world to not offer paid maternal leave. The Family Medical Leave Act provides for 12 weeks of leave, but this is not paid. Also, any time taken off due to pregnancy prior to the birth of the child is subtracted from this time. Only three states in the country offer paid maternal leave.
Studies on the subject show that paid parental leave has health benefits for families and economic benefits for companies and the employees that take paid leave. When parents are given an appropriate amount of paid time off following recent childbirth or adoption, mother and child are healthier, child mortality decreases, and parents are more likely to return to work and work longer hours, allowing businesses to retain their skilled employees. Quite clearly, paid parental leave benefits all.
We demand that our legislators in the state of Florida work towards a bill requiring six weeks of paid parental leave for new mothers and fathers.
