Shakenya Batson started this petition to Florida State Senate

My name is Shakenya Batson, I am a local resident in SaintPetersburg FL. On October 13, 2018 I gave birth to a baby boy at 22 weeks gestation, he was fighting for his life gasping for air while the nurses at All Children’s Baby Place surrounded us sharing their condolences and saying “Sorry for your loss” while my child was still alive, what bothers me is the fact that they just stood there and watched him die instead of giving him proper care and treatment to at least help him survive and give him a chance at life. Sadly there are a lot more people who have been in this same exact position and had to say goodbye to their child way too soon, I can’t explain the amount of pain that I’ve been experiencing ever since that day, my heart yearns for my son. I believe everyone deserves a chance no matter what the outcome may be, everything is worth giving a try and the nurses at All Children’s Baby Place failed to do so. I would like the State Of Florida to change the Laws on what age an infant can go into the NICU. I’ve done research, yes, there is a very low percentage of babies born under 23 weeks that have survived, but there are infants under 23 weeks that have survived due to being given proper care and treatment in order to have a chance at life. Just because there is a low percentage rate doesn’t mean that there’s no possibility that any infant being born under 23 weeks won’t survive. I don’t want anyone having the same traumatic experience that I did which keeps happening to others over and over again, that’s why I need everyone’s help to sign this petition for all infants to receive proper care in order to prevent more heartaches.
