Save Bicyclists Lives By Including Bicycles in the "Move Over Law"!

Too many bicyclists are being killed on Florida roads every year. Our friends are killed every season, so many that we can't name them here, without fail even if riding bicycles in a group, for visibility, for greater safety while obeying all existing traffic laws. Sharing the roadway for group road cyclists or commuter cyclists on roads with narrow bike lanes or without bike lanes needs to become the law. Citizens of Florida need this in order to save lives.

We hereby petition the state of Florida to:

Add to 316.126(1)(b)1 that vehicles shall vacate the lane closest to a bicyclist(s) when driving on multi-lane roads, except when otherwise directed by law enforcement.

316.126(1)(c) DHSMV is to provide educational awareness information to the motoring public about the "Move Over Act". The "Move Over Act" shall be incorporated into all driver license materials.

Add to 318.18(2)(b) Thirty dollar fine, or more, for all nonmoving traffic violations blocking bicycle lanes from use by bicycles which includes police parking in bike lanes.

The proceeds from the fine as defined in s. 316.126(1)(b) shall be paid to non profit organizations that educate drivers in being safe around bicyclists.
