Health Care coverage for cancer treatment, organ transplant, affordable medications

My sister has cancer, and as hard as this is we are fortunate that she was able to get treatment. Unfortunately this isn’t the case for many.  Yesterday we were reminded of her luck after the woman sitting in the chair next to hers had to be turned away by the nurse.  She was ready to endure the side effects of chemo therapy to get a second chance in life, she was hopeful to be cured or to at least enter remission so she could spend more time with her loved ones. I can’t begin to describe how disheartening it was to see her face after the nurse said that her chemo wasn’t approved, that she should try to apeal with her insurance.  Everyone felt her pain in the room, we don’t know how advanced her cancer is, we don’t know how much time she has to wait to start treatment. This happens with adults, children, seniors.  It shouldn’t! We live in the best country in the world! And yet everyday Americans, just like you and I, need to decide between going through a difficult treatment to get a shot at a longer life, and going bankrupt. Too often bankruptcy is an undisclosed side effect of healthcare here in America.

Elections are coming! And we will vote wisely!
