Protect and Preserve the 101 Tenants Living in Affordable Housing Units at South Beach Marina Apartments, San Francisco

In the coming days, 101 of our low and middle income neighbors at the South Beach Marina Apartments will be getting notices that their below market rents will be converted to full market rate. These residents had no idea when they signed their apartment leases that certain covenants made 30 years ago were set to expire, creating a de-facto eviction by sending these long time residents out into the highest rental market in the Country.

We are asking the Florida State Board of Administration, one of the Nation's largest pension funds with more than $182 Billion (that's with a "B") in assets under management, to maintain these 101 units permanently at 100% affordable rents. Housing is a right, and if you want to be in the business of owning and operating apartments in San Francisco, you have to be a part of the solution.

Our fellow neighbors affected include teachers, seniors, young families, small business owners, tradesman, and hard working low and middle income families. All of them signed leases for below market rate units based on meeting certain income requirements. Some have lived at the Apartments for several decades, others came to build a family or retire. None of them are rich, and that's what it takes to live in San Francisco today. They don't make enough money to pay market rate rents, and now they are getting the short end of the stick which they never bargained for.

San Francisco was built on diversity of ideas, of cultures, of ethnicity and income. We need to keep our neighborhoods diverse. We need to act now to protect our friends and neighbors. Please Sign our petition today!

We will keep you updated including our press event to be held soon.

xx, your friends and neighbors from the South Beach Marina Apartments 101 Tenants United
