Please help support the rights for massage therapists to practice energy work in the state of Florida!

The Florida Department of Health has filed charges against a licensed massage therapist for practicing qigong. The outcome of this case will set the precedent for all licensed massage therapists in the state of Florida, and will effect whether or not they will be legally allowed to practice energy work or qi gong in the future.

Qigong is a form of energy work, and is translated as "energy cultivation: or "working with the life energy". Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese system of postures, exercises, breathing techniques, and meditations, designed to improve and enhance the body's qi. Qigong is widely taught to massage therapists, and approved for CEUs in the State of Florida. It is approved by the World Health Organization, which concluded that it is a highly cost effective modality and effective modality.  A comprehensive review of studies shows that it is an effective modality for: cardiopulmonary issues, fall prevention, bone density, physical function, psychological symptoms, immune function, and quality of life.

Qigong does not use any special instruments   Qigong basics can be easily taught; in fact, there are many videos widely available on YouTube.

Full disclosure: I am an Acupuncture Physician, and qigong is explicitly included in the scope of practice for Acupuncturists.  I first learned qigong from my martial arts school, and studied qigong and tai chi for almost a decade before I ever went to acupuncture school.  Qigong can be as basic as the fundamentals of how to breathe, and this is information that should be freely accessible.  Massage therapists should have the right to use energy work including qigong in their sessions.
