When reported to police, less than 20% of cases of rape and sexual assault lead to arrest. In addition to this, victims decline to file charges or end investigations early. Lack of resources and the longevity of these cases are factors that contribute substantially to this trend of case attrition. On average, rape and sexual assault victims wait almost three years before perpetrators are faced with any charges. From the two mentioned factors, this petition is in regard to streamlining and reducing the time between rape & sexual assault crimes and prosecution. By setting a time in which these cases must be addressed and solved, we can reduce the number of dropped cases and spare victims from having to relive traumatic experiences through a long drawn out case. Through whatever means reasonably possible, these cases must be dealt with swiftly and at a speed that is at least on par with the average case length of any other felony; 2 to 12 months.
