Florida's Natural Growers: Save Our Bees!

Albert Einstein once said, "If the bees disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live."
Today, bee populations in the United States are rapidly collapsing. This cruel reality makes it even more disheartening to learn that one of the largest fruit juice producers in the United States, Florida's Natural Growers, buys some of its oranges from Ben Hill Griffin, Inc., a supplier which was recently fined by the Florida Department of Agriculture for spraying its citrus groves with harmful pesticides. According to the Florida Department of Agriculture, this spraying resulted in the death of millions of bees. However, this fine only amounts to $1500, a mere slap on the wrist to a company the size of Ben Hill Griffin, Inc.
On its website, Florida's Natural Growers claims to be "environmentally friendly," but if its business practices are so in tune with nature then why do its suppliers spray their citrus trees with harmful chemicals that have been shown to be lethal to bees? Florida's Natural Growers' website makes much of the cooperative's commitment to sustainability and land stewardship. However allowing their suppliers to spray these deadly chemicals on their citrus trees makes a mockery of this assertion.
We urge Florida's Natural Growers to embrace a policy of real sustainability and ensure that its suppliers do not engage in toxic agricultural practices, including spraying harmful pesticides that are deadly to bees. Bees are essential to human survival because they pollinate the fruits and vegetables that ultimately find their way to our kitchen table. Tell Florida's Natural Growers that you want your juice to come from citrus trees free of the pesticides that kill millions of bees each year. Tell Florida's Natural Growers to stand up to its name and sell products that truly are natural.
