Avery Coffey started this petition to Florida International University and

Multiple times through the academic year, protestors come to campus. They stand outside of GC for everyone to see and speak on the issues they see are fit for change. It is their right as American Citizens to speak freely (First Amendment states just that). However, we are calling for boundaries to be made for these protestors. Graphic images and displays can be triggering to see (i.e. the pro-life protestors). We shouldn’t feel like we need to avoid our daily route to class in order to not be harassed by protesters on campus. We should feel safe on campus. We should feel comfortable on campus. For an institution that values our safety and us as students, we call for a change in the way protestors make their stance on campus. No graphic images, no harassment. The officers assigned to oversee the protests should be more active in ensuring the safety of the students. When protestors are adamantly walking with students who have made it clear they’re not interested, the officers should step in.
