Rocki Evans started this petition to Florida Institute of Technology

If you want to at least have the option to take Hybrid classes next year, all you have to do is sign this petition.

With the ongoing battle against COVID-19, F.I.T (Florida Institute of Technology) has adopted a hybrid option that allows students to attend online classes if they arent comfortable with going face to face. For many of us, this has allowed us to focus better on our classes in a relaxed setting and to get more use out of the tiny dorms that we are already paying over 5k for per semester. Until now, I personally have never seen students this good at handling the stress of adulthood and education all at once.

Unfortunately, COVID is still going strong with 1,436 new cases in Brevard County alone over the last 14 days. This is a petition to allow the Hybrid Class option to remain available just until COVID is fully under control and going to in-person classes is no longer a high risk.

There is little evidence that the campus currently has control over the situation as they have even gone lax on wearing masks to the point where they are bringing large groups of people on campus for tours every other week and often times none of them are wearing masks or social distancing despite the numerous signs posted outside. The school has, however, been getting many complaints about the wifi to the point where another petition was made just to get the wifi working again. It seems odd that all of a sudden, the school is pushing for in person classes despite the past few months of literally nobody expressing disdain for having the option to choose Hybrid classes. The school also doesnt seem to be considering the reversal of cutting the campus population size. So why go back to in-person classes? It seems possible that one main motive is just to make us shut up about the wifi.

All this petition is asking for is to keep the Hyrbid classes an option at least for this coming academic year and to make the return to in-person classes strictly voluntary until COVID rates are under 100 new cases per 2 weeks in this small area. After all, it is much easier to fix your wifi than to force thousands of antsy students to strictly comply with mask-wearing and good hygiene in the dead of summer heat.

This has no intention of affecting any of the outside gatherings and parties that the school likes to have, because those are easy enough for a student to decide if they want to attend or not.

So again, if you want to at least have the choice to take Hybrid classes next year too, consider signing this petition.
