STOP Strip Searches of Incarcerated Women in Florida

We need to stop the barbaric and inhumane use of strip searches of incarcerated women in Florida prisons. Approximately 57.2 per cent of incarcerated women report they have been victims of sexual abuse before going to prison.  Squat, spread and cough traumatizes them all over again.  It strips them of their dignity, self-worth and humanity.  When women receive visits they are strip searched before visitation and after visitation.  This affects the women and their loved ones with loved ones sometimes limiting visits because of the trauma.  We have technology that precludes strip searches-body scanners which are now used in some jails in Florida.  Body scanners are better able to detect contraband and are non-invasive and more humane.
