Too many people on registry that don't deserve to be. Our country is having a panic attack over sex. We need to calm down and take another look at the extreme punishments we give those who have been LABELED sex offenders.

The registry does not distinguish the level of offense,,,,when a person has served prison time, probation, confinement because of state or local laws unable to join family in certain locations ,,,the cost to the families financially, the AWA is an additional prison, how can we be gainfully employed, live home, go back to college? When is the offense paid? If manslaughter, DUI manslaughter, murder,,,is there a registry for these offenses? Registries are as the Nazi regime to the people in Europe and their security on a day to day was dangerous and they were "marked" and registered, do you see what I am fearful of here?

The sex offender registry is a violation of civil rights for all who are on it. If we "must" have a registry, then ALL PEOPLE who have been convicted of any felony should be on it! Those convicted of DUI, manslaughter, murder, drugs, arson, robbery, assault, battery, fraud, etc.

The registry does not serve the purpose it was intended to serve. It was created as a knee-jerk reaction. It destroys way too many lives!! If there must be a registry keep it private for law enforcement only; not open to the public.

The SO registry destroys lives!! For every person put on the registry there are many individuals (his/her family members-including children) that suffer because of it.

I'm signing because I am a registered sex offender who got swept up in an illegal sting that was posted on an ADULT website. I am now FORCED to serve what is essentially a life sentence for a crime where there was no victim and were I had already served time in prison for. I have been out of the "care" of the Florida DoC for over 6 months now and I am still unemployed due to employers not wanting to hire a "sex offender." I cannot attend college on campus because I'm "too much of a risk." I'm still constantly looking over my shoulder and walking on egg shells for fear of someone looking me up and harrassing and/or attacking me and/or my family! These laws are hurting people who only want a second chance at life, but are being denied.

During a very emotional time in my life I made some very bad decisions. I have since done all I can to recover my otherwise stalwart reputation. My failure was 16+ years ago. I now live in a family oriented neighborhood and get along quite well with my neighbors. I am active in church and community events. Most of all, however, my daughter has reached out to restore our relationship. I can only hope that the 'chains' I now wear will one day be removed and that I can once again be the productive citizen I have been 99.9% of my life.

Sadly their are way too many registered citizens on the list that don't deserve to be there. My husband is one of them. The state of Florida will put anyone on the list, even if it was peeing in public to two teenagers. Now don't get me wrong as a mother I would like to know where the "real" people are that have issues. But I would also like to know where the people are that have gotten DUI's or manslaughter charges too, but I am not permitted to know that. I am not given a flyer on that one. How about the known drug dealers? Nope let them out and continue to deal. It's called being a parent and watching your child. My husband served his time and will continue to serve a time a lifetime of punishment for a crime that their were no known victims for a file he didn't know was on his computer. That was proven in court. He will always have a shadow of doubt cast over him and can never see neices or nephews until they are of age. You tell me how that works.

There is not a designation on the sex offender registry...sentences are unjust and does nothing but ruin lives and the laws are redundant and prevents a person, who has paid for the offense, to try and start a new life..just the opposite will happen...unemployment, homeless, in violation of probation because they cannot get to the appointments or pay for probation.
