Jessie Jordan started this petition to Florida Department of State

Florida's state bird is currently the mockingbird. The mockingbird is also the state bird of 5 states in the USA, and does not represent the spirit of Florida.

The roseate spoonbill, however, is not only a Florida native, but is a striking pink bird with a weirdly shaped beak- truly a symbol of the unique beauty of the Sunshine State. Additionally, it is endangered, and could benefit greatly from the protections that being State Bird would afford it- whereas the mockingbird needs no such help.

Please join me in petitioning the Florida Department of State to keep our unique and beautiful state exactly that: beautiful and unique, right down to the state bird.
