On December 31, 2014, the Florida Department of Corrections housed 100,873 inmates in its 56 state prisons. 32,921 inmates were released into the local community in 2014 alone. One of every four inmates released from a Florida prison returns to prison in Florida within three years. How do we end this cycle?
Liber-P's goal is to get inmates hired once they exit the criminal justice system. We have identified that the main problem returning citizens face is their lack of technological literacy or training and the reluctance of employers to hire felons.
Our proposed solution is to provide access to information, in the form of skill training, to inmates during their term of incarceration, thus providing the tools necessary for the released inmates to newly become productive members of society. Through skill training, administered through online platforms, we are enabling these individuals to become employed.
