Ross Davies started this petition to Flintshire County Council and

Accident waiting to happen...

If you live in the village, you will have witnessed many cars speeding through it, at various times of the day. With the village road placed on a steep hill,  it is far too easy for a driver to let their vehicle gather speed - I requested the council install the speed warning sign in the village after too many ‘close calls’. The route offers direct access to the A55 from the A548, which proves to be very busy at peak times. The middle of the village gives access to the bus stops, where each day school children cross the road without any proper means (zebra crossing for example).

My proposal is not drastic, but to have speed limit reductions, making the current 30mph zone 20mph (red route), and extending the 30mph zone (blue route), similar to the changes made in Maes Pennant. We are welcome to hear about other traffic calming measures should the council propose them.

”20mph is a safer speed limit than 30mph for roads where space is shared by motor vehicles and people walking, cycling or riding a motorbike. This is because a person walking who is hit by a vehicle travelling at 30mph is up to five times more likely to be killed than if they were hit at 20mph.”

Reducing the speed limit to 20mph will stop a potential accident.

To allow the entry to the new 20mph zone, I have suggested the current 30mph zone be extended to ‘Mostyn Dry Bridge’ and along the unnamed road to the junction to Maes Pennant, where dog walkers and alike frequent the current national speed limit road to access public footpaths.
