Why do we cook bacon but bake cookies?

it makes zero sense so help me fix this inconsistency in these names. Why would you bake something that has cook in its name and why would you cook something that is literally called BAKE-on.  This bothers me and hopefully it bothers you too. Make a difference, let us change bacon’s name to cookies and cookie’s name to bacon.
